What Is A DKIM Selector?

A DKIM selector is a string that is used for pointing toward a specific DKIM public-key record in your DNS. It is specified as “s=” tag within the DKIM-Signature header field and can be found in the technical headers of the email.

Validation on the receiver’s side uses selector as well as signing domain for to carry out DNS query and for public-key in your DNS.

An example is given below.

selector”._domainkey.yourdomain

When the receiver retrieves the public key, it uses this public key to verify the DKIM signature.
